Campaign for Real Beauty: How Do Cultures Define It? How Should We?

Culture, Identity · 11 August, 2017

Most are familiar with Victoria Secret’s concept of beauty. I applaud Shaunda Rhimes and Dove’s Real Beauty campaign for breaking new ground in describing it more fully. Do they go far enough?

What if culture defined the concept of beauty this way?

I admire what Ria Sharma is doing to redefine it for a group of women in India. Her clients are acid attack survivors who receive legal, emotional, and medical support at her rehabilitation center in New Delhi. Read more of her story or Lillian’s story with hearing-impaired girls in India. Beauty is much more about survival, integrity, and charity. How are you being beautiful today?

Learn more about women who have endured acid attacks at the Acid Survivors Trust International.
