5 Books on Effective Time Management Strategies

Productivity · 29 February, 2020

Do you need more effective time management strategies? Reading is one of my favorite strategies to save time. Learning (aka reading) shaves months off the time taken by those gaffes you might otherwise make. For all the resources out there, I currently choose these and offer why. Setting aside the classic text by Stephen Covey that I assume you’ve read, this list changes as I find different options that complement the others on the list.

Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose your Life (2019) – Nir Eyal and Julie Li discuss time management as pain management, traction, what draws us into distraction and why, and making (effort, price, and identity) pacts.

Atomic Habits (2018) – James Clear has collected over half of a million folks following his discussion of building good habits and breaking bad ones. Habit-making is essential to more effective time management strategies. Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit (2014) should also be mentioned.

Tell Your Time: How to To Manage Your Schedule So You Can Live Free (2011) – A lesser-known author, Amy Lynn Andrews, offers a short, lower-priced, independently published e-primer on time management. She runs a successful minimalistic business on her terms working part-time hours. She’s also better than most in not subscribing you to her email list unless you actually agree. That’s a time saver in itself. How often do you click unsubscribe on a weekly basis?

The 4-hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich (2009) – The title alone should suck you in to read it. Tim Ferriss is simply a titan in how to use your time well to make money, get fit, cook well, etc.

Time Management for Dummies (2014) An unfortunate title, but otherwise a good choice comes from Clare Evans who runs a coaching business in the United Kingdom. She offers a definitive list of tips and techniques. Another Brit to consider is James Wallman and his Time and How to Spend It: The 7 Rules for Happier, Healthier Days (2019).

What other international authors or persons of color have written on time management? I want to read them! Send your recommendations my way.
